Tasting at Mistaken Identity Vineyards
Mistaken Identity Vineyards is a lovely organic vineyard located on Salt Spring Island, BC that first began producing wine in 2008. They produce boutique wines from grapes grown on their estate and supplemented by grapes from the B.C. Interior, Vancouver Island, and the lower mainland of BC.
The winery is located within walking distance of Ganges harbour and has lovely grounds complete with a deck to enjoy you wine and a picnic area where you can lounge or play a game of Bocci. I enjoyed a tasting of all wines currently on offer and have chosen a select number to review and entice you to visit.
Journey 2014 VQA
This is white estate blend of Pinot Gris, Ortega, Siegerrebe, Madeline Angevine, Madeline Sylvaner and Reichensteiner. 6 varietals that are perfectly balanced with pear on the nose and in the glass with a hint of lime citrus and a crisp, clean finish.
Gratitude 2014 VQA
This white is made from Comox Valley grown Schoenberger and Petite Milo, Mistaken Identity Vineyards estate Pinot Gris, Siegerrebe, Reichensteiner, Ortega, Madeline Sylvaner and Madeline Angevine. This is a complex wine that has hints of tart cherry candy, citrus, pear and a hint of grapefruit. Each mouthful gives a new experience. This wine would be divine with Manchego cheese and apple slices.
Community 2013 VQA
This Bordeaux style red blend of estate grown Zweigelt and Leon Millot with Marachel Foch and Cabernet Foch from southern Salt Spring Island is nicely balanced with cherry and blackberry followed by a bit off peppery spice. It has a light body with a long finish. This would be my choice for a light red wine out on the deck.
Divinity 2013 VQA
This red is from Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes organically farmed in the southern Okanagan Valley. It is 25% Cabernet Franc and 75% Merlot with full tanins and a rich body. Rich cherry and black pepper with a hint of cigar complete with a long finish and dense body.
I look forward to a return visit and picnic on the lawn. For more information and directions to this winery please follow the link below.
